Review on the book "The Mythical Man-Month"

The Mythical Man-Month, anniversary edition (2nd edition) is written by Frederick P. Brooks Jr, published by Addison-Wesley Professional, in August 1995.

This is a famous book that includes insightful essays written by Frederick P. Brooks Jr on software development.

Probably it makes sense to read the anniversary edition because it includes the famous article "No Silver Bullet." It also lists concisely the statements made chapter by chapter in its 1975 edition and shows whether they are still relevant nowadays. Most of them still hold true even after this book was initially published more than 30 years ago.

It is also interesting to see the author's reply to various critiques on "No Silver Bullet."

As a take-home, you may remember the Brooks' Law: Adding more people to a late project makes it even later. You also need to be aware of the "Second system effect": After the success of the first system, people tend to overdesign the second system that can lead to a complete failure.

Overall this is a book worth reading multiple times during one's career in software development.
